Courses Using OPNET:

Network design and modelling 3 ects

Objectives: Student is capable to plan and carry out simulations of computer networks with modern simulation system.

Contents: : Introduction to network design and modeling and network simulation

in general and with the OPNET IT Guru and Modeler tools. Abstracting real

networks; traffic generation: importing traffic from real networks and using

probability density functions; choosing "relevant" parameters; analyzing and

interpreting results.

Using different node and application models; building up different

topologies; implementing simulation projects using different protocols, e.g.

different TCP flavors, STP and IP QoS simulations (using active queuing and

different scheduling algorithms).

Implementation: Lectures, Exercises

Level: Post-graduate

Assessment: exam

Duration: lectures 24 hours

Teacher: M.Sc. Georg Mittenecker, , FH JOANNEUM

Project work, laboratory 5 ects

Objectives: Student will make in telecommunication laboratory an individual practical project from area of telecommunication or computer networks.

Contents: : OPNET Modeller, CCNP-laboratory, testing network “FISHNET”, Linux, Windows, Netware, Telecomm lab.

Implementation: Laboratory working

Level: Under-graduate

Assessment: Report

Duration: Laboratory working 70h
